Obsesi menanam sayur

Obsesi teruk. To be exact, sejak 1 Mei tahun ni la hingga sekarang. Masa bulan Ramadhan plak tu start obsessed teruk. Obses semacam kali ni. Bila Ramadhan datang, ada saja  perangai pelik aku timbul.  Mimpi apa ntah! Lin memang suka berkebun sejak kecil lagi. Memang dok tanam macam-macam dah kat rumah kami ni, cuma when it comes to tanam sayur tu memang dah lama tak buat. Dulu memang pernah tanam kacang bendi, kacang botol, cili besar....pastu, died natural death! Minat tu hilang. Sekarang dia datang kembali.

One thing about me, when I am into something, I go all out...well, setakat termampu badan ni lah kan. Dah masuk 4 series ni kena beringat juga, tak boleh nak pecut macam masa umur 20an dulu. Masa muda dulu lain la kan, kalau berkebun all day pun takdak hal lah! Tapi sekarang kalau buat macam tu memang cari nahas la! Haha! Dah la dah lama tak bersenam, so kena  sentiasa beringat dan kenal badan sendiri. Kena tahu bila nak berhenti or else boleh tergolek pengsan dalam kebun tu sorang-sorang! Hahaha!

Salah satu lagi sebab kenapa minat berkebun tu datang mungkin sebab masa virus Covid 19 ni ada masa Lin rasa susah nak cari kangkung untuk Ikan kaloi Lin, si Bulat tu yang memang suka sangat makan kangkung. Tapi menyampah betoi la nak cari kangkung kat supermarket....asyik-asyik dok jual kangkung yang dah nak separuh mati, layu. Sebelum ni senang nak dapat sayur kangkung yang segar kat pasar tani tapi time virus Covid 19 ni memang leceh. Dah la tak boleh nak keluar selalu. To be honest, Lin keluar rumah seminggu sekali ja. Memang makin lama makin malas keluar. So I thought....heyyyy....why not tanam je kan sayur kangkung ni. Itu sayur yang penting pada masa tu. So decided untuk mulakan tanam kangkung dulu. Masa tu rasa macam segala sayur Lin boleh tanam....punya semangat tinggi tak tau nak habaq! Haha! So tanam banyak juga la...lepas tu baru cuba tanam bendi. Benih bendi minta kat jiran sebelah masa awalnya, lepas tu beli sendiri kat kedai Mr DIY Dan Eco.

Plan asal tu nak tanam kangkung dan bendi ja.....siap buat batas beb!!! Tak pernah pernah seumur hidup buat batas sendiri. Masa kecil dulu arwah Daddy pernah la buatkan....tapi sendiri tak pernah la. Memang excited gila masa tu. Memang dah biasa buat kerja tu dari dulu tapi sekarang ni kerja tu makin banyak la sebab extra kerja tanam sayur pula.

Lepas tanam bendi tu, macam tak puas tau....nak juga tanam sayur lain. So apa lagi, tergedik-gedik la Lin pergi kedai cari benih. Merata juga cari benih ni, maklumlah kan dah obses sangat. Beli benih, beli tanah, beli pasu.....haish....tapi since Lin ni jenis praktikal person gitu, jadi bila nak beli sesuatu tu pikir banyak kali juga la. Takdaklah sampai membazir.

I think the third thing I planted was bawang putih...kiranya semuanya pada awalnya semai dalam toilet tissue roll.

Lepas tu cuba nak tanam sawi pula! Haha! Yang ni paling susah! Serious lama gila nak semai sawi ni. First time cuba rasa agak kecewa sebab tak berapa menjadi tapi since benih ada banyak lagi so will definitely cuba dan cuba lagi lepas ni. Takpa, no pain no gain! 😄

In the end, terpaksa tanam semula.

Bawang putih pun kena tanam banyak lagi. Alangkah bahagianya! Semoga impian jadi kenyataan 😉😍.

The White-Throated Kingfisher in my garden!

What a lovely lovely surprise! I was happily having breakfast with my Mom this morning and suddenly we saw this White-Throated Kingfisher in our garden. What a rare sight! I quickly went to grab my digital camera and started taking videos of the bird and also snapped some photos of it. I was so afraid that the bird would notice me. Luckily it didn't! I was very very quiet! hehe!

I've seen this bird many times before in our neighbourhood. Every time I  go out for my morning ride at the park, I would see them on the telephone line or up on the trees. It's never easy to get a shot of it. They are not that tame and are easily scared whenever they see humans staring at them hehehe.

But I managed to take a shot of it coz we made a cage outside our house like the photo you see above. I just love having breakfast and dinner here because we get to enjoy the fresh air minus all the flies, mosquitoes and bird poo! LOL! ;) Even the birds don't notice us when we take photos or videos of them when we are standing inside the cage. The minute they see us outside the cage, they would fly away. So I guess the cage sort of like camouflaged us a bit hehehe. I can now take more photos of nature without disturbing them. Love it!

The green tree snake

This video was taken on 30th of July 2013 but only now do I have some little time to blog about it. I was doing laundry at the back of the house when I thought of checking out the gherkin tree to see if there are any new gherkins available for me to pick out.

But as I got near to the gherkin tree, I noticed something that was out of the ordinary about the tree. One of the branch looked extra big and shiny. That's when I realised it wasn't a branch. It was the body of the green tree snake!! Yikes!!!

I got really scared and ran into the house. But I guess I wasn't that scared to take a video of it ehehe! So I did. Luckily there are windows in the kitchen that are just a feet away from the gherkin tree. So I just stood by the window and recorded a video of the snake. I was happy that a couple of the Yellow-vented Bulbul dropped by and made an appearance in the video too! heheh!

The cute culprits!

I took a video of the Yellow-vented Bulbul birds just the other day.......I was inside the house standing right by the window when taking the video. Those birds didn't even notice me standing there.....I was so quiet....never made a sound......while they happily ate the flowers of the bean tree.

They've been eating the flowers almost every day now. So much so that we could never get the chance to see the beans grow because they've been eating up all the flowers. Poor tree!

But even so.....it's always a joy to watch the birds eat....and flying playfully in the garden outside our house. We don't have pet birds but these birds are like pets except that they are free to fly and roam anywhere they like and be free to do what they want.

I really enjoy watching them. It's the simple joys of life......simple things that makes us happy.....the little things that reminds us of our Creator.....and how wonderful His creations are. :)

We got lemons!

Our one and only lemon tree in our garden has finally bear some fruits this year. In the beginning, I saw a lot of flowers on the tree......but after a while some dropped off and only a few remained.

Same goes with the fruit. Some managed to hang on to the tree and some dropped off. Only the strong ones remain and hopefully we will be able to taste them.

I can't wait to see the lemons grow bigger and turn really yellow like the photos of lemons I see in the internet. How wonderful it would be if there were many of them on the tree.

It would be great not having to buy lemons anymore and just pluck them from the tree. The lemons that they sell over  here at the supermarket are so expensive.

I love using lemons with tea and also with fresh fruits......not to mention cooking them with fish.....so yummy! ;)

Gherkins!

I'm just so excited that we now have gherkins in our garden. I remember when I was younger, my grandmother used to plant them at her place. I used to eat them right from the tree itself whenever I play in her garden. She would always be wondering what happened to all her gherkins.....where had they gone to?? HEhehehehehe.......they all went to my stomach!! LOL!

I love eating them with nasi lemak......they are so crunchy and tasty. ;)

The morning chat

I gotta shock this morning as I was busy working in my room, suddenly I heard such loud sounds of the Black Naped Oriole outside the house. I quickly ran towards the window and saw about 4-5 of them on the banana trees having their morning chat....ahahaha.....I was just guessing about what they were doing. Only God knows what on earth were they saying to each other. First time for me to see so many of them at one time. Usually it's only 1 or two.

I managed to grab my camera and took a video of them. Pretty difficult to do it because I had to do it while I'm inside the house. I can't go out and take videos of them because that would scare them and chase them away. So I had to be quick! Luckily I managed to get a shot of them before they flew off to another location. :)

Teeny weeny corn

Hehe! I never thought that the small corn tree would actually bear any corn! But as you can see, it did! LOL! It's so so so small! This corn tree is the smallest one we have out of the 5 corn tree my Mom planted in her garden. All of them are bearing corn now but not sure yet if the corns are any good to eat....will have to wait and see the results soon. It will take some more time to grow, not really sure how long that will take. Wait patiently I shall... :D

Bird watching again

I think by now a lot of people who have been following my blog would know how much I love to watch the variety of birds outside my window. There is one particular bird that has been playing with the rain water that we kept in buckets outside the house. It's been doing this for the past 2-3 days now. I just couldn't help myself and took a video of it in action :).

Corn tree

See how small our corn tree is??? Not even one feet tall. Super small and yet the flower has already come out at an early stage. I wonder how small the corn will be. LOL! :D

Blame it on the rain

Late last night there was a sudden heavy storm that passed by our neighbourhood. The heavy rain and the strong wind had caused some damages to my Mom's garden. Luckily it was not that severe. However it did broke one of the big tree pot.

As you can see here, one of the lotus flower had been "beheaded" by the strong forces of nature ehehehehehe.........the flower was completely chopped off and fell to the ground huhuhuhu......it was just beginning to bloom yesterday.....such a pity....felt sad seeing it on the floor like that....... :(

Below is the pot that is broken......looks like we have to replace it with another bigger pot or just plant it in the ground somewhere in my Mom's garden.

Broken in two

Whooooaaaa.....I thought I was the only one who is not feeling well.....seems like the banana trees at my house feels the same way too......

Just out of the blue, not sure what triggered it.....no wind, no rain, no storm whatsoever.......suddenly they just broke in two........

Green, yellow and red

I took these photos this morning :). So happy to see the rambutan tree at my Mom's house with all the fruits on it that's starting to change colors from green to yellow and red. I haven't tasted the red ones yet coz I know it's not yet fully ripe enough to eat......so I will wait till it's really really ripe :)

We have two rambutan trees at the house and both have fruits on them. I think by Ramadhan they'll be ready for us to eat. :). Just a few more months to go! Woohoo!

It's flowering!

I'm so happy!!! Our rambutan trees are flowering again! Finally!! I was pretty sad when only one of them bear fruits last year. This particular one that you see above didn't bear any fruit at all. Probably because of the hot dry season. So this year my Mom flooded the trees with water for a few weeks and now  they are flowering! Yipppeeeee!! :D

Lemon flowers

Lemon flowers.....aren't they pretty? It's the first time for me to see lemon flowers blossom....and looking at them blossom in our own garden is fantastic. I can't wait to see them turn into lemons....lots and lots of lemons! hehee! When my Mom bought it, it already has one lemon on it.....but is still green in colour.....it hasn't turn yellow yet. It sure does take a while to change it's colour. I'm so impatient.....just can't wait to see the changes hehehe.... :D

I took the photos a few days ago.....when the weather was hot and sunny outside. Right now, it's raining non stop over here. It's worrying me coz I don't want to face another flood here in Alor Setar.

We've already replanted the lemon tree in a bigger pot. Hopefully it will grow nicely. :)

Black eyed bird

Didn't go for my workout this morning huhuhuhuhu.......all because I slept so late last night around 2.00am......why? I was busy making a last minute birthday card for my Mom's friend. I'm happy that I managed to get it done on time and the birthday gal was so happy to receive it! Woohoo!

Was very busy all day.....I only managed to get online at night. But it's so rite.....no biggie. At least I got most of the work done for the day.

Ok.....now, the big question. What kind of bird is that?? Does anybody know?? I took a photo of the bird from inside the house. I was looking at it through the kitchen window. It sat there quietly and didn't move an inch! So I was so tempted to capture it on camera and I did it! I just gotta find out what kind of bird this is . I've never seen it before here at our garden. There are so many types of birds that visit our garden every day....they like it here because we have so many big trees around with big branches they can rest on.

The bird's eye looks pretty creepy. It's pitch black! It didn't make a sound at all......too bad.....I  sure would like to know what it sounds like. My Mom said that it's a dove....a type of dove......I DON'T THINK SO!! Cannot be laaaaaaaa..........hmmmmm.....I must investigate!!!

Lemon tree

"Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat"

Every time I think of lemon trees I will think of that song! haha! An old song I remember singing and listening to when I was little. But I like lemons and I don't think it's impossible to eat! hahaha!

My Mom bought this lemon tree at the pasar tani yesterday. Ain't it cute! It's still small and yet has bared fruit! Just one though.....but it has a lot of flower buds on it too! I hope the flower buds won't  fall off once we replant it in a bigger pot.

She bought this tree because of me hehehe. I wanted to eat this fruit so much and make it part of my new diet. It's kinda expensive to buy them at the supermarket so we thought in the long term, it's better to buy the tree itself so that we can get lemons for life hehehe.....hopefully it will grow nicely and bare lots and lots of lemons! :) We have two lemon trees now....and also bought one more citrus tree called limau kasturi.....some say it's called Calamondin or Calamansi in English. This type of citrus fruit is very small and taste so wonderful mixed with salad. I love it! You can find out more about it at this link:    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamondin

Mosaic plant

Aren't they just so pretty and cute!!?? I adore them so much! I never knew that the mosaic plant actually have flowers! LOL! I don't think my Mom knew it either until we saw them blooming this morning. What a lovely sight to see. The plant has diamond shape leaves and they grow pretty well under the hot sun. When my Mom bought it a while back, it was only just a few of them.....and look at them now! They sure fill up the pot pretty fast. Soon we would have to move some of them into another pot so that it won't get too crowded.

I took a lot of photos of this plant hehehe.....can't help it. :D They look so nice....right now I sure wish I had a digital DSLR camera.....as I know I can take better shots of the plant using that camera compared to my Sony Cybershot. Not sure if the flowers are seasonal though, I need to look it up in the net....but I sure hope it blooms all year round. :)
