Ais kacang salji

Ais kacang salji special........yes.....that's what I'm talking about here....the photo you see above is my current favourite cold dessert! See how happy I am when I'm having it? hehehehe! Super happy indeed! I recently discovered about it while watching TV, when they did a feature about it in the news. Immediately I had to find out how to get to the place where they are selling it. It's quite far from where I'm staying....quite a long drive to get a dessert ehehehe.

The photo you see below is where the ais kacang salji is located......at Restoran Dinalang in Simpang Empat Kangkong, it's right next to Balai Polis Simpang Empat...you can't miss it...... :). I remembered asking around about it from my friends in Facebook for the directions to get to this place. Luckily a couple of them gave me the directions and it was quite easy for me to follow.

Once the location is found, I just had to go and get a scoop! Actually.....more than a scoop....a bowl of it! In the beginning I didn't know that they served the ais kacang salji in two different servings. One is the normal ais kacang salji and the other is the "special" one! Of course the special one is extra special and extra delicious. The normal one looks like the photo below.....less fillings and less ice of course. The special one is like the photo at the top.

The taste of the ais kacang salji is beyond amazing. It reminds me of my childhood seriously. A very authentic taste that brings you back in time. They made their own sugar syrup, red beans and jelly for this dessert and they made them fresh everyday. That's one of the reasons why it tastes so good. Plus of course the ice is shredded so thinly that it looks like snow.....and feels so soft and smooth unlike all the other ais kacang I've tasted before. By the way......for those who don't know what ais kacang salji means...... ais means ice.......kacang means beans and salji means snow.....so it's ice beans snow eheheheh! :D

They also sell kuey teow sup daging......like the photo below......I love it too.....love the taste.....sometimes I like the bihun sup daging as well. Well, all I can say is that everything that they sell here tastes so good and the price is super cheap. That's the best thing about staying in Kedah!!!

Lai Chi Kang Kumbang

Do you see what I see? Yup, it's a beetle floating in the red plastic spoon. It's a DEAD beetle.....drowned in the Lai Chi Kang......probably been dead for God knows how long before it ended up in my Lai Chi Kang. The person who made the Lai Chi Kang for me probably thought that by adding a dead beetle in it might add some special flavour to it and thus making it a super creative invention from the restaurant. :P

At first we just wanted to buy the food and eat it at home but I was the one who insisted on eating there because I wanted to eat the Lai Chi Kang at the restaurant. I just prefer to eat it at the place.....just like "ais kacang", it's better to eat it at the place rather than packing it and eating it at home. They are just best served there. Boy was it a huge mistake to order it. >.<

The sickening part was that even though they knew that there was a dead beetle in my Lai Chi Kang, they insisted that it was a "peanut"!!! Can you believe it!!???? They said to my Mom that it's a PEANUT!!! As if my Mom was blind or something. It's so obvious that it's a dead beetle and yet they had the cheek to say it was otherwise. I was just so upset with their attitude towards their customers. They didn't even apologize for what they have done.

I was introduced to this restaurant by an aunt of mine. It is situated somewhere at Jalan Langgar.....before the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital....it's famous for their grilled fish. The food there was "so-so" but the place simply stinks ....it's like there is a rubbish truck inside the restaurant. I guess this will be the last time I'm stepping my foot at the restaurant. Too bad....it's just too bad........ :(

Tosei Tandop

I went to have breakfast in town this morning at a new place located near Ukir Mall. It's location is just right beside Kopitiam, Ukir Mall. The place was recommended by my Mom's friend. They said that the tosei there tasted so nice, so me and my Mom went to check it out after our visit to the hospital.

And to our surprise, it was really delicious. The tosei itself was just nice in taste....not too sour like some I've tasted before and the chutney was good too....but the best of all was the dhal! Special recipe from Kerala, India it seems! Well, that's what the tosei guy informed us. He said, his wife is from Kerala and in Kerala, that's how their dhal looks like and that's how they make it over there. Thick and light yellow in colour mixed with it's special spices. It tasted so good that you can even eat it on it's own.....(sounds like Gardenia's tagline doesn't it????  hahaha). :D

The couple are actually from Tandop.....and they were invited to do business at the new place by the owner of the restaurant because they are so good in making tosei. It seems that back in Tandop, their tosei are usually sold out by 8.00am!! So fast! That's how good their tosei is! I really think that they are God sent. :D Thank you God for sending them here to serve us yummy tosei haha! :D

The only thing missing in this wonderful tosei is it's lack in crispiness...I like my tosei crispy and hot. But this one is a bit soft on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. Oh! How can I forget the podi!! Yes! If there is podi, that would make a huge difference in the tosei eating experience hihihi! I haven't had podi with tosei in a long long long time. Miss it so much. We told the tosei guy that if his wife can make podi for us, it would be so great! So great I tell ya! haha!

Hope to get the chance to go eat there again one of these days ;).

Mee Udang Aur Gading

Mee Udang!!!!! Eh, got prawn behind the mee meh?? Yup....got plenty of it actually hahaha. Big ones too! Gosh I can't remember when was the last time I ate prawns this big!! They are so big I tell ya! haha! Since I've been allergic to seafood for so long, I haven't been eating this type of prawn for a long long time.

I thought to myself......why not ya? Why not? It's not going to kill me anyways. It will probably make me itch just a bit. :P I don't eat prawns everyday anyways. I've just started taking them since I'm on my supplements lately. The supplements really helps in aiding my allergies. So, I can eat seafood and not get a very bad side effects from it. But I always remember not to overdose anything. Take anything in moderation.

Mee udang at Aur Gading, Sg.Dua, which is at Butterworth is quite good. I wouldn't say excellent though. But I would probably not go eat there again simply because I don't like how they serve the noodles. It's too soft for my liking. I think they overcooked it. But the prawns were fresh and tasty. The whole thing was quite spicy....so I like it. I don't like it if it's too sweet.

I saw quite a number of restaurants there selling these prawn noodles.......didn't know which one was the best one to try. But my aunt and I were told that the one at Aur Gading is good, so we gave it a try. If you love seafood, then you should go and try it. They don't only sell prawn noodles, they also sell other seafood dishes there and the place is nearby a river. We should have ate by the river instead......would have been more special hehehe!

I was so excited about eating the prawns that I forgot to take a photo of me eating it hahaha. Oh well! Was too psyched about it I guess. We had to wait a long time to get our food on the table. We were so hungry....huhuhu. Thank God it tasted nice. Oh! It's quite pricey too ya.....huhu. For 3 people plus the drinks, it costs us almost RM50.00! And it's all because of those giant prawns hahaha. :D

Leha Kelfood

 Nasi Dagang

 Nasi Kerabu

Nasi Dagang with daging bakar and keropok...yum yum!

I had the opportunity again to go and have breakfast at Leha Kelfood at Taman Melati Utama, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur during my short vacation. Perhaps the name Leha Kelfood means Leha Kelantan Food? It makes sense right? hehe! I don't know....I'm just guessing hehe!  I love the food there. Especially the Nasi Dagang....my fave! :)

I think this is the second time I've gone to have breakfast there, or is it my third?? I've forgotten.  :P The food there is kinda expensive but it tastes really nice. That's the only place I know of that serves Kelantan dishes that actually tastes really nice. Don't know of any other place where they sell really good Kelantan food. Does anybody know? Care to share with me? Would love to check out other places that sells really good Kelantan food. Can't find any in Alor Setar hehehe!

I can only eat Kelantan food whenever I go to KL.......better yet, if  I can go to Kelantan itself. Then I can taste the real thing there. Feeling hungry for some Nasi Dagang right now! Ooooooh!!! My stomach  is grumbling already......huhu! :D

If you go to Leha Kelfood, you'll just be going googoogaga over the choices of food served there. So many yummy dishes to choose from. They even have roti canai there, so it's not just Kelantan dishes but so many other types of food sold there. I can hardly decide which one I want to eat.  Everything looks so yummy! They even serve desserts like cakes, cream puffs, tidbits and traditional desserts too.

If you have not tried the food there.......what are you waiting for? GO! Go try it! You won't regret it! ;)

Nescafe' Tarik

Recently my Mom bought this new Nescafe' Tarik 3 in 1 powdered coffee for us to try out. She was so curious to find out what's so special about this latest invention from Nestle'...... hahahaha. So we gave it a try. BUT! That's not the only reason why she bought it......she bought it because she also wanted the free gifts hahahaha.....can you guess what it is???? Yes! It's that kopitiam cup and saucer you see above. LOL! I have no idea why she must have those cups and saucers....as if we don't have enough cups and saucers at home already. I think Nestle's marketing team is so clever.....they came up with this promotion so that they can sell off their products more hahaha.....and people like my Mom who loves to collect free stuff, would fall for this promotions every time! LOL! Noticed how sometimes, we are not even interested in buying the product, but because there is "FREE GIFTS", we buy it anyways?! Sigh!

So! I tried to make myself a cup of Nescafe' Tarik today.....and was really surprised to see so much of bubbles the minute I poured the hot water into the coffee mix. Seriously, I didn't even have to do anything much to the coffee mix.....the bubbles just came up instantly once the hot water hits it. :O I kinda wondered at that moment, what on earth is in the ingredient that makes all those bubbles. Usually, we would have to "tarik" the coffee a few times in order to get those bubbles. Immediately I thought to myself.....hmmmmmm.....I'm drinking chemicals again.....and god knows what it is......therefore, I won't be drinking this again....too afraid actually of the long term effect it might give me.

Honestly, I've always preferred the non instant coffee.......and I also preferred it without any creamer. Just plain black coffee with some brown sugar would be lovely! :) The creamer does makes the coffee tastes extra yummy but it also makes me gain the extra pounds hahahaha. So I try not to take coffee with creamer or condensed milk......I don't mind the fresh milk though. :)

Last day of Mangkuk Tingkat Delivery!

Today marks the end of the mangkuk tingkat delivery to our house. NO MORE  mangkuk tingkat food after this from tomorrow onwards! I think we had enough of the mangkuk tingkat food for this year. We were thinking of continuing the order till the fasting month comes but because we cannot stand eating the food anymore that we had to put it to a stop.

Actually I'm pretty sad that it had to end today. I really thought that this service would work out for us since we are all very busy with work and was hoping that this could help reduce the time we spend in the kitchen cooking lunch. But unfortunately, since the mangkuk tingkat tauke didn't keep her promise to provide for us  the kind of food that we requested from her last month, so we had to end the service. She promised that she won't repeat the same menu for the second month....but she did!!! And she said she won't give us anymore seafood in the menu because we can't eat seafood.....but she did give us seafood!!! Arrrrghhhh....why laaaa like that??? A promise is a promise right? It's like as if she didn't care about her own customer. We didn't matter at all to her. :(

If you look at the photos above, those are the items what we received today for our lunch. And none of it is good for me or my Mom to eat. The first item is the sayur petola....which they cooked with so much of coconut milk....it will hurt my already problematic liver. The second item is fried fish....and it's the kind of fish that I'm allergic to. The third item is also something I'm allergic to, which is salted fish with chillies. And the last item....the sambal belacan...with ulam. Sambal belacan is the worst.....if I eat that....I'll be scratching myself for at least 2 weeks. So, in the end, the person who have to eat all this is my Mom. And she herself is not suppose to be taking all this stuff either because of her high blood pressure. :( We also noticed that ever since we started eating this mangkuk tingkat food, we have put on so much of weight!! The food they serve us everyday is so oily and fattening.

I just don't get it why didn't she just listen to our requests. It's not like we are asking too much. We are just asking her to provide food that are more balanced and healthy for everyone to eat. Oh well....what to do. I guess from now on, we will just have to figure out how to prepare simple and easy to do lunches for us to eat everyday. This way, we can control the amount of oil, salt and sugar in our cooking and add in more fiber too. Hopefully we can lose the weight we gained for the past 2 months of eating the mangkuk tingkat food. I personally need to lose it quick before raya comes otherwise I won't be able to fit in my raya clothes hahahahaha!! Yikes! :D

Pizza Hut's Fish King Pizza

Hahahahahhaha.......just yesterday I was talking about losing the weight and wanting to work out more.....suddenly today my Mom and Aunt went and bought this Pizza Hut's Fish King Pizza for our lunch!!!! Arrrggghhh! This is all because my Mom wanted to give some of it to our maid, Rose. You see.....months ago, my Mom wanted to order pizzas for us and Rose to eat before Rose went home after work in the evening. So my Mom ordered  the pizzas through the delivery service. We waited and waited for more than an hour for the pizza guy to deliver the pizzas to us. By right, the deal was, the pizzas has to be delivered to us still hot in the package in about 30 minutes or less. But the guy was really late because he got lost when trying to find our house and by the time he arrived the pizzas were cold. That really made my Mom upset! So much so that she didn't want to take the pizzas at all.....and asked the guy to return them back to Pizza Hut. Haiyaaaaaa........I pity the guy but it was his fault though.....because he was suppose to call us for directions if he got lost. My Mom even called Pizza Hut so many times to ask the pizza guy to call her for directions since he couldn't find our house. But he didn't.......male ego I guess....trying to show how smart he is.....He should realise that customers are always right. If he is at fault....then he should have just admit it. So....because he was late.....Rose never got to eat her pizza.........and she had to go home empty handed.

So ever since that incident.....we never ordered pizza anymore through the delivery service. And since we couldn't depend on the delivery service.....we had to go out and buy it ourselves at the Pizza Hut Restaurant. The day never came for us to have the opportunity to go out and buy until today. :) So today, my Mom's wish was granted and everybody was happy because the pizza tasted great. This is the first time we tried the new pizza......and it's so yummy compared to the usual pizza offered at Pizza Hut because it has mayonnaise in it. I really think that the mayonnaise is the reason why it tasted so good. They didn't put any tomato sauce on the pizza at all....and the cheese was really thick! There was also some crab fingers in it.......which I'm not suppose to eat....heh! I'm not suppose to eat mayonnaise either....but what the heck! LOL! Just this one time! Why not ya? :P The Alaskan Pollock fish fingers on top of the pizza was good as well. So.....in other words....I loved it! We all loved it! hahahahahah........yes I do feel guilty about eating it. But this is the last pizza I'll be having for this year. No more pizza till I loose my weight!!! hahahaha!

I didn't even know that there was a contest going on for this Fish King Pizza! If I knew I would have taken photos of us eating it or something hahahahhaa......well, for those out there who are planning to buy this pizza.....don't forget to take shots of yourselves eating it ya! I checked out the contest and it seems pretty easy to enter.....just fill up your particulars and upload the photos online....no need to write any slogan whatsoever! I love it when I don't have to write slogans......I'm not good at writing slogans at all hahahaha.  Here's the link to the contest! :

Mangkuk tingkat delivery Part 20

Sorry ya for the late entry on the mangkuk tingkat episodes hehehe.........today's schedule was pretty hectic and I believe tomorrow will be another hectic day for me as well. But tomorrow and the day after, there won't be any mangkuk tingkat deliveries....hence no entries about it either....will have to wait till Sunday for the next one. I can't believe it.....it's already PART 20!! Wow......just 10 more to go before the mangkuk tingkat challenge is over. But will it ever be over......hmmm....that will be up to the mangkuk tingkat tauke to help us decide because only she can convince the chef to cook the menu according to our requests :) . So we will have to wait and see how it goes in the end.

What can I say.......I LOVE today's menu because there is that yummylicious kari ikan masin!!!! I'm not sure what they call it in English....but the direct translation would be "salted fish curry" hahahahaha!! :P I know I  know.....by right, I shouldn't be eating it because I'm not allowed to eat ikan masin......but the smell was too good for me to resist it!!!! I was drooling when I was taking the photos of the dishes hahahahaha.......told my Mom that I couldn't wait till 1.00pm to have lunch......had to have lunch straight away after taking the photos hahahaha....

I tell ya one thing.....if there is just that kari ikan masin.....and rice....that would suffice for me. No need to eat anything else......just rice and that curry....good enough to eat up till 2 plates of rice I tell ya! :) So delicious man! hehehehe! I didn't eat the cabbage though....thyroid patients are not allowed to eat cabbage......so I let my Mom and Aunt finish that up......so I guess we didn't leave anything for dinner.....as usual everything was eaten up during lunch time :).

Mangkuk tingkat delivery Part 19

These are the yummy menu for today :). Unlike other days...today's dishes are shared by 3 people.....me, my Mom and my aunt. I had to cook extra vegetable dish and fried some fish.....coz I was afraid that the mangkuk tingkat dishes today might not be enough for 3 people. I wasn't able to eat the ikan kembung anyways......so obviously I had to cook something else for myself....... :P

This is the first time my aunt gets the chance to eat the mangkuk tingkat dishes with us......and now that she gets to see what it's really like....she is enjoying it hehehe.....she too is interested with this service......but my Mom suggests that we share the order...cheaper  right hehehe.....I mean why order separately....it's much more expensive if we order it separately. We are thinking of ordering the mangkuk tingkat dishes next month for 3 - 4 people. And like I said yesterday....I'm really hoping that the tauke would accept our requests to change the menu to a much more suitable and healthier one for us......hopefully it will work out in the end :).

Mangkuk tingkat delivery Part 18

Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!! Today's mangkuk tingkat menu has two fish dishes!! Yes! Yes! Yes! The mangkuk tingkat tauke actually listened to us!!! Just yesterday my Mom called her up and told her that she wanted more fish in the menu and we got what we wanted today! See?? Constant pleas really did the job hahahhaa......if we persists and keep giving them feedback......one day they will listen to our needs.... :)

My Mom and I did discussed about it and she conveyed to the tauke what our requests were. And today the tauke managed to satisfy our requests. I'm so happy about it!! :). Now that they know what we can and cannot eat, I really hope that we will be able to enjoy the mangkuk tingkat menu more. The tauke understands that not everyone can consume what they serve. Especially if the people eating it are old folks........with health problems etc etc. So it's not suitable for them. My Mom is given the permission from the tauke to think of what type of dishes that would be suitable for us to eat on a daily basis. She is to present it to the tauke to consider. The tauke said we must get the green light from the chef herself. So if the chef agrees to cook a separate menu for us......then we might consider taking the mangkuk tingkat delivery again next month. My Mom just cannot tolerate eating seafood every other day......it's bad for her health. And I don't want her to get sick because of this either. So I really hope all will work out well.

My Mom told me that she really likes this mangkuk tingkat service....I mean....who doesn't??? I love it too......hahahaha.....simply because I now have more time during the morning and afternoons to concentrate on my work. I no longer have to spend hours in the kitchen fixing lunch with my Mom. It's so convenient! Plus....the food are so tasty! Sometimes even better than the ones we buy outside at the food stalls or small restaurants. Seriously! AND.....it's cheap! We save time and money and energy! :)

We suggested to the tauke.......to consider making food that are more suitable for old folks and people with health problems to eat.......like for instance......food that are grilled instead of fried......more soup dishes....more vegetable dishes.....and also fish...at least 3 out of the 5 times, we would like to have fish in the menu. We can take the chicken on the other 2 days. I'm sure many of my Mom's friends who are single....living alone in the house would love to take this order if the tauke is willing to cater the needs of the old folks......believe me.....there are many people out there who are old and are tired of cooking everyday. They want to use their time for something more meaningful. So if the tauke can realise this issue.....perhaps they can get more customers. :) There is certainly a demand for it......and hopefully the tauke is willing to supply! :)

Mangkuk tingkat delivery Part 17

What can I say.....today's mangkuk tingkat menu was really delicious. Hmmm.....looks like there are good days.....and bad days. And today was one of the good ones :)

On Mondays....the weekly maid comes over the house to do the cleaning.....so she gets to share the food with us too......therefore, there were no leftovers as all of the food were eaten up during lunch time. :) Alhamdulillah......
