Menu sihat untuk 2021

Alhamdulillah tahun baru 2021 dengan azam baru ni Lin ingin mulakan semula "clean eating". Sebelum ni pun Lin pernah buat bila badan rasa tak berapa sihat sangat. Kali ni pun atas sebab yang sama. Biasalah kan, bila dah sakit teruk baru nak insaf, haha! Hujung tahun lepas Lin rasa sakit sangat badan ni sampai ke tahap nak buat kerja apa pun susah. Rasa tak larat nak buat apa pun. Masa tu Lin sedar yang Lin kena bertindak cepat sebelum terlambat!

Bila dah lama tak buat clean eating ni memang rasa susah sangat nak mulakan.

Cara nak masak lauk tu pun kena ubah. No more goreng-goreng ni....kena bakar, stim atau rebus saja.

Aduh ngerinya!

Sekarang makin mudah.

Makan tengahari pula, Lin suka makan nasi. Bagus makan nasi berbanding makan roti. Roti pun Lin dah tak makan sekarang ni sebab roti ni menyebabkan alergi juga. Setengah orang memang tak boleh makan makanan berasaskan gandum. Semua kena "gluten" free.

Simple tapi sangat menyelerakan. Alhamdulillah dapat makan macam ni sekarang ni. Untuk makan malam pula, Lin cuba elakkan makan nasi, tapi makan sayur banyak dan sedikit lauk. Makan pun agak awal, sebelum pukul 8 malam, semua dah settle. Kekadang tu sebelum pukul 7 malam pun dah settle! Haha! Tak elok makan malam lewat sangat. Nanti perut tak sempat nak hadam sebelum kita tidur.

Ais kacang salji

Ais kacang salji special........yes.....that's what I'm talking about here....the photo you see above is my current favourite cold dessert! See how happy I am when I'm having it? hehehehe! Super happy indeed! I recently discovered about it while watching TV, when they did a feature about it in the news. Immediately I had to find out how to get to the place where they are selling it. It's quite far from where I'm staying....quite a long drive to get a dessert ehehehe.

The photo you see below is where the ais kacang salji is located......at Restoran Dinalang in Simpang Empat Kangkong, it's right next to Balai Polis Simpang Empat...you can't miss it...... :). I remembered asking around about it from my friends in Facebook for the directions to get to this place. Luckily a couple of them gave me the directions and it was quite easy for me to follow.

Once the location is found, I just had to go and get a scoop! Actually.....more than a scoop....a bowl of it! In the beginning I didn't know that they served the ais kacang salji in two different servings. One is the normal ais kacang salji and the other is the "special" one! Of course the special one is extra special and extra delicious. The normal one looks like the photo below.....less fillings and less ice of course. The special one is like the photo at the top.

The taste of the ais kacang salji is beyond amazing. It reminds me of my childhood seriously. A very authentic taste that brings you back in time. They made their own sugar syrup, red beans and jelly for this dessert and they made them fresh everyday. That's one of the reasons why it tastes so good. Plus of course the ice is shredded so thinly that it looks like snow.....and feels so soft and smooth unlike all the other ais kacang I've tasted before. By the way......for those who don't know what ais kacang salji means...... ais means ice.......kacang means beans and salji means snow.....so it's ice beans snow eheheheh! :D

They also sell kuey teow sup daging......like the photo below......I love it too.....love the taste.....sometimes I like the bihun sup daging as well. Well, all I can say is that everything that they sell here tastes so good and the price is super cheap. That's the best thing about staying in Kedah!!!

Eggs in onion rings

This is all because of Pinterest!! Blame it on Pinterest! All the photos of food in there are driving me crazy ahahahahaha! Of course I can't try all the wonderful recipes in there but at least I'm trying something! ahaha! One of it that's super easy to do is how to cook eggs in big onion rings! I saw one photo in Pinterest that caught my eye.....it looks super easy to do and yummy too. You can have a look at the photo at the link here: http://www.apronstringsblog.com/vegetarian-entrees/onion-ring-sunny-side-up-eggs-sauteed-onion-as-a-ring-mold-for-eggs/

So I gave it a try this morning but it didn't look as nice though......but it did tasted great to me! hehe! I don't like the eggs to be too soft and wobbly, so I fried it on both sides, that's why you see the top part of the eggs looking all fried and crisp on top. ;)

I could also try cooking the eggs in pepper rings too......that would look pretty and less messy because the size of the rings are bigger .........but that's for next time hehehehe ;).

Tosei Tandop

I went to have breakfast in town this morning at a new place located near Ukir Mall. It's location is just right beside Kopitiam, Ukir Mall. The place was recommended by my Mom's friend. They said that the tosei there tasted so nice, so me and my Mom went to check it out after our visit to the hospital.

And to our surprise, it was really delicious. The tosei itself was just nice in taste....not too sour like some I've tasted before and the chutney was good too....but the best of all was the dhal! Special recipe from Kerala, India it seems! Well, that's what the tosei guy informed us. He said, his wife is from Kerala and in Kerala, that's how their dhal looks like and that's how they make it over there. Thick and light yellow in colour mixed with it's special spices. It tasted so good that you can even eat it on it's own.....(sounds like Gardenia's tagline doesn't it????  hahaha). :D

The couple are actually from Tandop.....and they were invited to do business at the new place by the owner of the restaurant because they are so good in making tosei. It seems that back in Tandop, their tosei are usually sold out by 8.00am!! So fast! That's how good their tosei is! I really think that they are God sent. :D Thank you God for sending them here to serve us yummy tosei haha! :D

The only thing missing in this wonderful tosei is it's lack in crispiness...I like my tosei crispy and hot. But this one is a bit soft on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. Oh! How can I forget the podi!! Yes! If there is podi, that would make a huge difference in the tosei eating experience hihihi! I haven't had podi with tosei in a long long long time. Miss it so much. We told the tosei guy that if his wife can make podi for us, it would be so great! So great I tell ya! haha!

Hope to get the chance to go eat there again one of these days ;).

Boiled tapioca

I went to my aunt's house this afternoon and had the chance to eat some boiled tapioca. Been a while since I last had them for tea time. Yummy! She planted the tapioca trees herself at her small garden....and when the time is right she will harvest them.

I like to eat it simply on it's own, no sugar or chilli sauce. Best eaten when it's still hot! :)

Mee Udang Aur Gading

Mee Udang!!!!! Eh, got prawn behind the mee meh?? Yup....got plenty of it actually hahaha. Big ones too! Gosh I can't remember when was the last time I ate prawns this big!! They are so big I tell ya! haha! Since I've been allergic to seafood for so long, I haven't been eating this type of prawn for a long long time.

I thought to myself......why not ya? Why not? It's not going to kill me anyways. It will probably make me itch just a bit. :P I don't eat prawns everyday anyways. I've just started taking them since I'm on my supplements lately. The supplements really helps in aiding my allergies. So, I can eat seafood and not get a very bad side effects from it. But I always remember not to overdose anything. Take anything in moderation.

Mee udang at Aur Gading, Sg.Dua, which is at Butterworth is quite good. I wouldn't say excellent though. But I would probably not go eat there again simply because I don't like how they serve the noodles. It's too soft for my liking. I think they overcooked it. But the prawns were fresh and tasty. The whole thing was quite spicy....so I like it. I don't like it if it's too sweet.

I saw quite a number of restaurants there selling these prawn noodles.......didn't know which one was the best one to try. But my aunt and I were told that the one at Aur Gading is good, so we gave it a try. If you love seafood, then you should go and try it. They don't only sell prawn noodles, they also sell other seafood dishes there and the place is nearby a river. We should have ate by the river instead......would have been more special hehehe!

I was so excited about eating the prawns that I forgot to take a photo of me eating it hahaha. Oh well! Was too psyched about it I guess. We had to wait a long time to get our food on the table. We were so hungry....huhuhu. Thank God it tasted nice. Oh! It's quite pricey too ya.....huhu. For 3 people plus the drinks, it costs us almost RM50.00! And it's all because of those giant prawns hahaha. :D

Leha Kelfood

 Nasi Dagang

 Nasi Kerabu

Nasi Dagang with daging bakar and keropok...yum yum!

I had the opportunity again to go and have breakfast at Leha Kelfood at Taman Melati Utama, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur during my short vacation. Perhaps the name Leha Kelfood means Leha Kelantan Food? It makes sense right? hehe! I don't know....I'm just guessing hehe!  I love the food there. Especially the Nasi Dagang....my fave! :)

I think this is the second time I've gone to have breakfast there, or is it my third?? I've forgotten.  :P The food there is kinda expensive but it tastes really nice. That's the only place I know of that serves Kelantan dishes that actually tastes really nice. Don't know of any other place where they sell really good Kelantan food. Does anybody know? Care to share with me? Would love to check out other places that sells really good Kelantan food. Can't find any in Alor Setar hehehe!

I can only eat Kelantan food whenever I go to KL.......better yet, if  I can go to Kelantan itself. Then I can taste the real thing there. Feeling hungry for some Nasi Dagang right now! Ooooooh!!! My stomach  is grumbling already......huhu! :D

If you go to Leha Kelfood, you'll just be going googoogaga over the choices of food served there. So many yummy dishes to choose from. They even have roti canai there, so it's not just Kelantan dishes but so many other types of food sold there. I can hardly decide which one I want to eat.  Everything looks so yummy! They even serve desserts like cakes, cream puffs, tidbits and traditional desserts too.

If you have not tried the food there.......what are you waiting for? GO! Go try it! You won't regret it! ;)

Macaroni soup

I didn't play badminton today....huhuhu......my right hand still hurt pretty bad. :( So I just brisk walk at the park this morning and cycled too. I think something is wrong with my thighs too....especially my left thigh and my right knee. They hurt when I brisk walk. Sigh........side effects from the workouts I suppose.

My Mom made this macaroni soup today with fish! Yummy! I kinda like eating like this nowadays. Less oil and lots of vegetables in it. :) Pretty healthy dish!
Tomorrow is aerobic exercise day at the park. I'm not sure if I can handle it huhuhuh......but I'm determined to give it my best shot! It's just too much fun to miss it.

It was a rainy afternoon that kept pouring till late in the evening. It's pretty cold right now.....making me sleepy.....but I'm still in the mood to work and blog and etc etc....but no matter what, I gotta sleep soon, otherwise, I won't be able to get up early tomorrow for my workout! :)

Macaroni and beef pie

On the second day of Raya....this was what we had for dinner tonight.....macaroni and beef pie! My sister made two of them upon my request. I've been requesting her to make the pie for me for months now. Finally I got my wish today.

It's been a long time since I last had a homemade macaroni and beef pie. My Mom used to be so good at making this when we were small. I remember how my late father could eat one whole pie all by himself. She always had to make two pies. One for me, my sis and my Mom to eat and another one for my Dad. I don't think I could eat one whole pie all by myself! It's too much! Yup....he sure ate a lot back then. That's why he got so sick. :(

I only ate two slices.....and already my stomach is feeling so tight! I can barely move right now. I can only type....LOL! :D Since we've been fasting for a month.....our stomach can't take in so much of food like it used to before. So....I have to remember to be kind to my stomach....hehehe.

Vegetarian spaghetti

For berbuka today we had vegetarian spaghetti again. It tasted so good yesterday that we made it again today. Plus it's healthy for us too. :) I somehow have adapted to this kinda meal since I lived on my own in KL before. It was something I found quite easy to make and plus it tasted real good. I believe it had something to do with the celery. The celery makes all the difference in taste. Oh ya....not forgetting the carrots. Love them too. No.....not because I was born in the year of the Rabbit ok?? :D

It's almost 12.00 midnight and I'm still wide awake. What a day today was.  A lot has happened that kept  me thinking how words...words can really hurt. Intentionally or unintentionally. Lost for words I am now because of those words......... :(

Bread and butter pudding

What's for berbuka/breaking of fast today???? Yup! You guessed it right! It's bread and butter pudding! :) Yummy! I can't wait to taste it for berbuka today. Home made bread and butter pudding. I used wholemeal bread instead of the white bread. It would taste a little different but at least I know it's better for me. I love eating this with yogurt ....especially strawberry yogurt. Hmmmmm.......oh I can just imagine what it tastes like....hehehehe.....drool...... :D Actually this is what we are having for dessert.....the main meal  for berbuka is vegetarian spaghetti hehehehe....

Fasting is tough......but it's a duty that we all Muslims are used to doing since small. I'm ok with it now after going through it for the past 2 weeks. 2 weeks??? Gosh! How time flies.....I can't believe that it has already been 2 weeks! Usually the first 3 days is the toughest......after that....the body is accustom to the situation.  I'm glad that this year's Ramadhan is a healthy one because of what I've been eating lately for the fasting month. My Mom and I rarely eat anything that's fried anymore. Everything is either baked, steamed, or boiled. Not that we don't take any fat......we do.....except that we just rarely eat anything that's fried, that's all. :). I can see some difference in the way I feel......feel a lot lighter.....and I don't feel any pain at my liver anymore. I used to feel it everyday after eating oily food.

I'm also trying to drink hot lime juice everyday. I hope to see some good results. I know it's gonna take some time before I can see a huge difference.....but I'm sure there will be in due time. I just need to be patient and be consistent in what I do that's all. Just do it.....and pray for the best. :)

Bubur labu manis

During lunch time yesterday my family and I went out for lunch at a restaurant in town with our close friends. We had "nasi campur" and for dessert we had "bubur labu manis". Labu means pumpkin. It's a sweet dessert with pumpkin in it. Yummy yummy :)

My Mom knows how to make this dessert but usually when we make this ourselves we tend to make more and eat more. LOL! So, that's why we usually just buy them.....then we won't over eat! hehehe. Not good to eat this every day. Very fattening. Once in a while....perhaps once a month is ok. Just to satisfy our cravings hehehe.

Gemilang Burger

This is what I had for dinner at 6.30pm today ;). I think this is the 3rd time I had this Gemilang burger this year....hahahaha.......I tell you....this burger is so sinful!!! Packed with lots and lots of fat......so now that fat has join the rest of the fat at my tummy...LOL!

Don't you just love burger wrapped with eggs? Yummy! This double chicken burger can be found nearby a restaurant at Medan Kota, Jalan Kota Tanah, Alor Setar....and the burger stall is called Gemilang Burger. It's so famous for it's double chicken burger and double plate (it's something like chicken chop if I'm not mistaken). I've never tried the double plate before.....hmmmmmm......must try it next time! :) The burger only costs RM3.70.....not bad ya the price? Better eat this than eat McDonalds hehehhehehhee :)

The burger stall only opens in the evenings......starting around 5.30pm till late at night......so you can't get them for lunch ya! hahahaha...... ;)

Agar-agar sirap merah - New Stock! Yay!

I am sooooooo happy today that my Mom made a new stock of agar-agar sirap merah! Wooohooo!!! Yum yum.......I can eat this with condensed milk!! Ooooooppppsssss......there goes my diet! LOL! Alaaaaaaa.......I only put just a little bit of condensed milk....just a little...ehehehehe......I hope it won't effect that much to my weight. Must cycle more in the morning ehehehe! ;)

It's all because of the hot weather........the agar-agar is suppose to cool the body. Not make us fat.....no  no no......no more fat in me....I have too much fat already ehehehe......this time I asked my Mom to put less sugar in it so that it won't be too sweet. It's best to be eaten during the afternoons when the temperature is high. Cools off the body......yup....it's true.....it does work! Try it! :)

Kuih bahulu ikan

Kuih bahulu is a sweet cake .......yummy yummy sweet cake that I love to eat. Although it is bad for me because there are a lot of eggs in kuih bahulu....but I still "curi curi makan" kuih bahulu ni if ever I get the opportunity to do so. In this case....my Mom bought it and it's in the shape of a fish. Cute ya? Usually it doesn't look like this. Nowadays, it comes in so many kinds of shapes and sizes. They even got one in the shape of a prawn! LOL!

Anyways......I wanted to tell you a joke about this kuih bahulu. This morning, my Mom said to me.....Lina, I'm already full.....I ate 5 fish. I was like......what?????!!!! You ate 5 fish???!!! That's a lot Mom! But....it's not even lunch time yet......so why did  you have fish for breakfast???? It was weird......I didn't understand what my Mom was saying.....didn't realise she was pulling my leg! LOL! Then she laughed and laughed and I still didn't get it........then she gave up laughing and told me the truth........THEN I started laughing....hahahahha......I thought to myself.......no wonder la!!! No wonder you can eat 5 fish at one sitting.......coz it was just 5 kuih bahulu ikan! Cisssssss!!!!! She's always joking with me about this kuih bahulu....kept telling me.....don't worry....you can eat this.....coz it's fish....no eggs....so it won't cause you any allergies......and I was like.....YEAH RIGHT MOM!!!! Ye la tuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!! LOL!

Saturday getaway Part 2 - Durians

Durian eating time!!!! I couldn't be more excited about it! I can't remember when was the last time I ate durians......it was so long ago. So now that it's in season, I was so happy that we were invited by Uncle Perumal and Auntie Somchit to go and eat the durians at their house. It's an opportunity that I don't want to miss....... :). They have a few durian trees at their house and most of them bear fruits. It was a wonderful sight to see the durians hanging from the tree.....at such a close range. :) Huh.....talk about the simple pleasures in life! Uncle Perumal was kind enough to guide me around his fruit orchard and showed me the rambutan trees, the cempedak trees....mangoesteen trees......and lastly the durian trees.......waaaaah.....I couldn't be happier....kept shooting so many photos of the trees.....gosh, I have to go there again and take more  photos after the Eidul Fitri.....coz he said that's when most of the other trees will bear their fruits.....right now, there are only the durians....dukong....and setoi.....that's bearing fruits.

Oh no....we didn't over eat the durians.....I sure didn't....I probably had only about 5 to 6 small durian pulps. My Mom and the rest of her friends ate it with glutinous rice.....I don't really fancy eating the durian with it.....I just like eating durian as it is. The fruits are quite small in size......but the taste is really nice.....not too sweet and the pulp was quite soft. I really enjoyed it. We even got to bring back home some durians to eat......each one of us get to bring back some.... :). We plan to open the durians that we brought back home and keep the pulps in the tupperware and placed them in the freezer......that way it will be able to last longer :). And you know what? Once it stays in the freezer, you can take it out whenever you like and eat it like ice cream! LOL! I've done that before with  bigger size durian pulps.....super yummy! hehehe.... I can't wait to do that with the durians we have now.......doesn't matter if they are smaller.......as long as they taste nice  :)
